Palin

Palin really is the “dream” candidate in that she seems to have risen unbidden like a phantasm into the political landscape (that is our wilderness). All signifier and no signified, the far-right are going to inscribe their hopes and aspirations onto her; and as for the left, she is a mercurial creature of borderline nightmare. She is essentially a Christianist golem-this is the handiwork of a radical evangelical network, a construct. Her small town bullying antics are replicated in hundreds if not thousands of small city councils and school boards across the country, in every state. There are hundreds of Palins out there, quietly (and not so) chipping away at the firmaments of our democracy; the Alaska-ness is an added wild card, another shroud. The blitheness in which she lies and treats facts (aka Bridge to Nowhere), the cruelty of her comments about “community organizing”: for many of her ardent followers, is a feature and not a bug. It’s quite telling that, in this pot shot, she was hitting other Christians in the mouth-who, after all, are actively involved in community organizing.

And to them, I suspect that McCain is like Moses to them-he will not quite reach the promised land. Joshua (the city-ravager) will.

    Yes. Exactly.
If I weren’t an atheist, I’d say, ‘Amen’.
